Skyline_Rochester,_NYMayor Lovely Warren has announced the city has issued its first bid under a new financial incentive program for contractors who hire qualified city residents to work on a city-funded public works project.

According to Warren, the city will pay contractors a bonus of 20 cents for every dollar paid to any employee who works on the project and lives in the city in certain zip codes, as long as the gross pay to employees in those zip codes totals at least 10 percent of total wages paid to all of the contractor’s workers on the project.

The zip codes are: 14604, 14605, 14606, 14608, 14609, 14611, 14613, 14614 and 14621.

“Rochester’s annual budget includes millions of dollars that are awarded to private contractors,” Warren said. “This incentive program ensures that some of that money provides a direct benefit to city residents and stays closer to the local economy.”

The city issued a bid Dec. 1 seeking a contractor to replace the fire alarm system at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

The contract is expected to be approximately $240,000.

The new incentive program is available to all prime contractors and first-tier subcontractors on all new city funded projects of $50,000 or more.

Prime contractors and first-tier subcontractors must submit an application for the incentive within 90 days after the project has been completed and approved.
