LILAC FEST PARTNERS WITH FLOWER CITY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Comedian & Actor Orny Adams to Perform in Special Events Tent
Today the Rochester Lilac Festival, Presented by Five Star Bank, announced a new charity partnership, only the second in the Festival’s 120-year history. Flower City Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Initiative will receive $2.00 of every advance ticket purchased, using code HABITAT, for the two live performances in the 12,000 sq. ft Special Event Tent this year.
The two performances are in addition to the already substantial free entertainment line-up, including more than 50 acts, taking place on the Sahlen’s Center Stage over the course of the 10-day free Festival.
Orny Adams Live Comedy Show – Wednesday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m.
Orny Adams delivers a powerful, incisive stand-up routine that vacillates between the relevant and the absurd. He attacks what’s wrong with the world and sometimes even what’s wrong with Orny. He’s brutally honest, satirical and his performance is ceaselessly energetic. Orny has had one hour stand up specials on Netflix, Comedy Central and his third special “More Than Loud” is airing now on Showtime. Orny has appeared all over television, most notably on The Tonight Show, Late Night with David Letterman and The Conan O’Brien Show and his character Coach from the hit TV show Teen Wolf which ran for six seasons on MTV. Tickets are $25 advance and $30 at the door. Visit www.lilacfestival.com to get tickets.
Habitat’s Women Build will also hold a Celebrity Guest Bartending event in the Tent two hours before Orny goes on stage. The tips from the bartending event will all go directly to Women Build.
The Special Events Tent will also be home to an additional ticketed show that will benefit FCHH Women Build. This music performance will be announced at Record Archive on March 6, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. during the Festival’s music line-up press conference.
“This is the first year we’ll be doing ticketed, live performances in the Special Events Tent, and we have some really exciting shows planned to start this new tradition right,” said Lilac Festival Producer Jeff Springut. “And bringing Flower City Habitat in as a community benefactor for the Tent means people can enjoy the good vibes of the show while doing good for our community.”
“Flower City Habitat is proud to be associated with an iconic Rochester event such as the Lilac festival”, said Matt Flanigan, CEO. “In addition to enjoying themselves during the tent performances, festival goers will be providing vital fundraising support for our Women Build initiative which is poised to begin construction on their 14th house this year. Thanks to this new partnership, Women Build will continue to be one of Flower City Habitat’s most productive teams building homeownership, communities and hope for well-deserving families in our city.”
The Festival will also be continuing its partnership with Willow Domestic Violence Center, who last year became the first-ever Rochester Lilac Festival charity partner. Willow will continue to receive a portion of the proceeds from the annual Lilac Run 5K/10K and Donut Dash.
Three additional ticketed events will be taking place in the Special Events Tent this year including:
- Wine Tasting Expo on May 12, 2018
- Two sessions – 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“The Lilac Festival has been a great source of pride and excitement for our entire community. Each year, residents from throughout Western New York come out to celebrate with us in this great community event,” said Dinolfo. “With the announcement of Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Program as this year’s featured charity partner and the addition of two live ticketed performances, festival go-ers will have the opportunity to enjoy all the great entertainment the festival has to offer while supporting this important community program.”
About Flower City Habitat for Humanity (FCHH) Women Build
Flower City Habitat’s Women Build program is one of the organization’s most successful volunteer programs at both fundraising and building.
Each year, teams of women (and a handful of men) combine their fundraising efforts and volunteer build days to make another Habitat home possible. In 2017, FCHH completed its 13th Women Build house, a beautiful two story on Jay Street. A home that is now the foundation for a Rochester family to build strength, stability, and self-reliance. The 14th Women Build house is expected to start in May 2018.
In addition to the financial and volunteer support, FCHH offers how-to clinics to help prepare volunteers for the build site.
