The “Cabo Frio 37th Anniversary Concert 2016″ will take place at the Montage Music Hall, 50 Chestnut St., at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the show will be $18 in advance, or $20 on the day of the performance.
Since its inception in 1979, Cabo Frio has become one of the premier jazz bands in the country, and a cultural institution in Rochester.
The group has recorded ten albums, and been a supporting act for Jeff Lorber, The Yellow Jackets, Dave Valentine, Paquito D’Rivera, Crusaders, and Joe Sample. In addition, the band has opened for Miles Davis, Carlos Santana, and Kenny G.
“Named after a city in Brazil, Cabo Frio has strived to reflect cultural diversity in its music,” a press release stated. “Influenced by cultures around the world, its members meld their backgrounds, and individual sounds, to create music that is as diverse as its audience.”
Back on the scene after a hiatus from the music scene, Cabo Frio has recently released its newest album, “Dreamin!”
Drummer Curtis Kendrick, one of the group’s founding members, said the band continually strives to reflect cultural diversity in its music.
“We want to touch a broad spectrum of tastes with our music,” Kendrick stated.
