City Begins Work on ADA Right-of-Way Transition Plan
The City of Rochester has developed an ADA Transition Plan to guide improvements to accessibility in the City Right-of-Way. Mayor Malik D. Evans recently created the comprehensive plan, mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which focuses on identifying physical barriers in transportation systems and facilities and creating a plan to eliminate those barriers to improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
The ADA Transition Plan will identify accessibility challenges across key areas such as sidewalks, crosswalks, bus stops, and other pedestrian infrastructure within Rochester. The plan will document changes needed to infrastructure in the right-of-way required to meet the City's commitment to inclusivity and ensuring equitable access for all residents.
“As we work to make Rochester more safe, equitable and prosperous, we are committed to ensuring that we have a more accessible and inclusive environment for everyone in Rochester,” said Evans. “This ADA Right-of-Way Transition Plan marks a significant step towards identifying barriers and creating a comprehensive plan to improve accessibility and create an inclusive urban environment, ensuring every individual is able to navigate our city with dignity and accessibility.”
Supported by funding from the Genesee Transportation Council, the City is collaborating with Precision Infrastructure Management to spearhead the development of this plan. Precision Infrastructure Management brings extensive expertise in infrastructure planning and accessibility solutions to ensure the effective execution of the ADA Transition Plan.
