County Executive Bello Opens Nominations for 2025 Legislative Youth Awards Nominations Due Feb. 28

Community Submission

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County Executive Adam Bello announced that nominations are open for the 2025 Young Citizen of the Year, Willie W. Lightfoot Youth Advocate of the Year, and Monroe County Youth Team Achievement Award. Submissions are due by Feb. 28, 2025.

“These awards honor outstanding youth, youth teams, and adult advocates who contribute to their communities,” Bello said. “I encourage residents to nominate those making a positive impact.”

The Young Citizen of the Year award recognizes a youth demonstrating leadership, service, and community engagement. The Willie W. Lightfoot Youth Advocate of the Year award honors an adult dedicated to supporting and advocating for youth. New this year, the Monroe County Youth Team Achievement Award recognizes a youth team or group making a meaningful community contribution.

“Our young leaders drive positive change,” said Legislature President Yversha Román. “These awards celebrate their dedication and inspire future changemakers.”

Monroe County Youth Bureau Executive Director Tony Jordan emphasized the importance of recognition. “Acknowledging youth contributions shows them they are valued. A small gesture can inspire them to continue making a difference.”

Democratic Leader Michael Yudelson and Republican Leader Steve Brew echoed support, urging residents to submit nominations.

“As someone who has spent much of my career in youth services, I am proud that County Executive Bello and my Legislature colleagues recognize these young people, as well as adults who advocate on their behalf. If you know of a young person or adult who should be recognized for their efforts, please take a few minutes to submit a nomination.”

Nomination forms are available at monroecounty.gov/youth-award-form. Winners and nominators will receive invitations to the awards ceremony on April 24, 2025. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
