Irondequoit Town Supervisor Apologizes Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

Dave McCleary

Irondequoit Town Supervisor Andrae Evans issued a public apology Friday following allegations of sexual harassment but denied any wrongdoing and criticized the Town Board’s handling of the matter.

In a statement released through his attorneys, Evans addressed the accusations while disputing their accuracy.

“I have, sadly, read the allegations made about me, and I have two choices: dispute the accuracy of what was said or apologize for what someone thinks I said,” Evans said. “I could spend a lot of time arguing about whether the investigation the Town Board initiated was fair or politically motivated … Instead, I have decided to talk to the residents of Irondequoit and, more importantly, the women who have made these allegations against me.”

Evans expressed regret if any of his comments were perceived as inappropriate.

“I need to first apologize if my words were heard in either a diminishing or inappropriate way by anyone,” he said. “I would never intend to cause harm with anything I said, and I am simply so sorry if my words were heard in a way I did not mean.”

He also stated that he is a “happily married man” and said he was embarrassed by the situation’s impact on his family and colleagues.

His statement comes as the Town Board has reportedly called for his resignation. His attorneys, Bond, Schoeneck & King PLLC, said they are reviewing the board’s demand and considering a response.

“When I ran for public office, I was warned that at some point, someone would attack my reputation for political purposes, and I look forward to addressing this issue in more detail at the appropriate time,” Evans said, adding that he would not comment further to protect the confidentiality of town employees involved in the matter.

Evans has served as town supervisor since 2023 and has said he plans to seek re-election later this year.
