Monroe County Board of Elections Announces New ExpressVote XL Voting Machines

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Monroe County Board of Elections has announced the acquisition of new voting machines from Election Systems & Software. Beginning in 2025, voters in Monroe County will use the ExpressVote XL, a state-of-the-art voting system designed to improve accessibility, security and efficiency.
The ExpressVote XL machines include several key features:
Voter-verifiable paper records: Each voter will receive a printed ballot summarizing their selections, ensuring transparency and enabling post-election audits.
Enhanced accessibility: The machines support all voters through touch screens, audio interfaces and assistive device compatibility for independent voting.
Advanced security measures: Rigorous security protocols help protect election integrity.
“After years of research, demonstrations and feedback from stakeholders and current users, we are excited to move forward in modernizing and enhancing the voter experience in Monroe County,” said Commissioner Jackie Ortiz.
Commissioner Lisa Nicolay Elder emphasized the importance of voter education. “The Board is committed to ensuring voters have every opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new ExpressVote XL machines through demonstrations at meetings, community groups and public gatherings.”
The Board of Elections will host public demonstrations and training sessions ahead of the 2025 elections to help residents learn how to use the new machines.
