The City of Rochester and Monroe County are inviting local youth, ages 14 to 20, to apply for the city’s Summer of Opportunity Program (SOOP) and the county’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

Administered in partnership with RochesterWorks, the programs offer six weeks of paid internships for students enrolled in middle school, high school, or working toward a high school equivalency diploma. Participants gain workforce experience and skills to support academic success.

Applications will remain open until all positions are filled, and youth are encouraged to apply early. Applicants must be at least 14 years old by May 31.

After completing an application, participants will have the opportunity to interview for paid summer jobs or internships. Past employers have included the City of Rochester, community organizations, colleges, and local businesses.

Applicants must submit several documents before the deadline: a work permit, Social Security card, school report card, and official photo ID (such as a school ID, driver’s license, non-driver ID, or Safe Child ID). However, the application can be submitted before providing these documents.

To assist applicants, program administrators will hold four in-person document drop-off events:

  • Feb. 18-21 and April 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • March 6 and April 15 from 2 to 6 p.m.

All events will be held at the Loretta C. Scott Center for Human Services, 57 St. Paul St.

Selection for the program is competitive, and positions are not guaranteed. To apply or learn more, visit ROCSummerYouth.com or call the Summer Youth Hotline at (585) 428-6366.
