More than 4,000 demonstrators gathered Saturday at Cobbs Hill Park as part of the nationwide "Hands Off!" protests opposing the policies of President Donald Trump and advisor Elon Musk.
The April 5 rally, organized by Indivisible Rochester, featured speakers who raised concerns about cuts to social programs, threats to civil liberties, and a potential restructuring of government agencies.

“We are witnessing devastating cuts to hospitals and healthcare funding, leading to chronic understaffing and unsustainable workloads,” said Tracey Harrison, vice president of Local 1199 SEIU. “Healthcare workers are being pushed to the brink, and patients are paying the price.”
Protesters marched along Culver Road, carrying signs and chanting in support of democracy and the preservation of social welfare programs. The Rochester event was one of more than 1,200 "Hands Off!" demonstrations held across all 50 states. The movement was supported by over 150 organizations, including labor unions, civil rights groups, LGBTQ+ advocates, veterans’ associations and election watchdogs.
“This is our chance to stand up,” said Connor O’Brien, an organizer with Indivisible Rochester. “It’s going to be a peaceful demonstration, but it’s powerful because we’re united. We are not going to sit down.”

Similar demonstrations took place across the country, including a major rally on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Solidarity events were also held abroad in cities such as London, Paris, Berlin and Stockholm, reflecting international concern over the administration’s actions.
The "Hands Off!" movement describes its campaign as an effort to stop what it calls “the most brazen power grab in modern history,” citing threats to social programs, civil rights, and the consolidation of executive power.
The White House has pushed back against the criticism, stating that President Trump remains committed to protecting essential social programs and advancing his policy agenda.
